A menacing threat lurks over health-care workers like a dark cloud on a summer day: violence in the workplace. Since 2020, the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, incidents of violence in health-care settings have been on the rise. Kevin Bozic, MD, president of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) in Chicago, told CEO Update that he suspects the increase is due to high levels of frustration on the part of health-care workers and patients caused by stressful circumstances.
